“New Growth” looks within us to embrace our power as African Americans and as a society from an urban contemporary perspective. It begins with the permed, relaxed, trained expectations of others and transitions to the “big chop” allowing us to grow in our own glory. Works like “Makings of Jewel” start the exhibition with more traditional techniques and straight forward compositions, then builds to the interaction and exploration of more media to challenge possibilities as evidenced in “Masseur”. 

In this world that likes to label and classify, these works aim to broaden our perspective all while taking control of the narrative and empowering the Urban African American Culture.
